If you follow me on any social media platform, you’ll notice I capture and post pics of skies often. I’m fascinated by their beauty, majesty and how they change from day to day.
They remind me of God’s presence and power. And the importance of being quiet (still hard work for me). It’s only when I’m quiet or walking that I notice the clouds - otherwise, my tendency is to hustle.
At my last corporate job, my days started around 4:30 a.m. and didn’t end until well after 8 p.m. In between, I’d sandwich in school pickup and dropoff, a quick dinner with my family, and that’s about it. Little rest and no play, right?
My head was so buried in work, I never looked up. I didn't see daylight during the day. I never appreciated nature. I didn't SEE my family because I was too preoccupied with the hustle, the striving.
My schedule wasn’t unusual. The daily work drudgery is VERY vivid for most with the nonstop tapping on your shoulder to do more, hustle and please others.
I've known the hustle wasn't the best way since I experienced a significant loss in my 20s. Yet getting that message to my heart and fully embracing the concept of NOT HUSTLING has been slow to leak into my awareness and daily practice.
Moving away from that ingrained hustle culture has been hard. I’m having to reframe my own identity. My daily sunrise and mid day walks help. So does stopping to read in the middle of the day (weird right?). Also taking a day off work helps with my much needed reset (and rest).
If you feel trapped in the hustle and are ready to create a different life for yourself, let’s talk. You deserve the time to look up and experience all the beauty, wonder and joy in the world. And check out the clouds more - aren't they gorgeous?!?!
